There are many ways to cook a steak: you can broil it, grill it, pan-fry it… It depends on the personal taste. In this post, we are going to explain the common steps, so you can later choose your favourite.
- Step 1: Where Do I Buy the Meat?
There are two choices: either to go to the supermarket (where the meat is already cut into pieces and packaged, so you can avoid queues); or to ask the butcher, in case you have any questions. A professional will always give you the best raw material based on your preference and budget. Tip: The more white stripes on the meat, the more tasty is the dish.
- Step 2: And Now?
The meat is usually cold, so, if you can and have the time, let it settle about 40 minutes at room temperature to fully enjoy its taste qualities.
- Step 3: How to Season the Steak
We recommend the basic flavorings: oil, salt and pepper (optional). The remaining condiments will only mask the taste, something that cannot be allowed to happen if the quality of the meat is good. If you wonder whether you should sauce or not, the answer is: Never! (Unless you made a mistake going to the supermarket). Tip: Do not use table salt or salt flakes. Use coarse salt and Kosher salt to ensure the perfect flavour. Ground pepper is another good choice.
- Step 4: When to Start Cooking
If you decide to spray oil on the grill/pan, wait until it is warm. Then, turn the steak over and cook the second side for roughly the same amount of time to sear the meat properly, so it doesn’t lose any of its juiciness. Continue to cook the steak until it’s at your desired temperature for doneness: rare, medium, medium well or well done. Do not forget to spread salt and pepper (optional) on both sides of your steak.
Are you done? How is the steak? We hope it is delicious! Remember that the more times you make it, the better it gets. Enjoy your meal!
